Spoke too soon...

Well, now that I've had a chance to dress a happy, contented baby in a long dress, I've decided that the dress Sarah made fits after all. The sleeves might be a tad snug, but they're not terribly tight and Victoria could wiggle around to her hearts content in it...so I presume all is well. :) Thanks Sarah! The dress is gorgeous, and she's so adorable in it! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I spent today making a couple of underdresses/petticoats -- since the petticoat I'd made was far too small -- and started to make some shirts/chemises, but it's going to be hot out there at the reenactment and I don't need the baby to be any more layers than necessary. So I'm going to try to whip out one more simple gown, since I really don't want the sheer dress to be worn out at the reenactment -- it's really for photos and memories. Plus, it's not actually finished. Still, I went ahead and took a few other photos of the sheer dress, so everyone can see it. It looks like I made the bodice too long, but it works, I think.

What should I do for drawers? I'll probably use disposables, but should I make drawers for a cover? Or a wool pilcher (?) to pretend I'm using cloth underneath? Seems like that would be hot... Hmmm...

She looks adorable! I'm glad she'll be able to wear the gowns at least once. Babies grow so fast (sometimes it seems too fast!) and often when we *don't* want them to grow! :)

I know Mrs. G. mentioned loaners too, but I have two little short sleeve gowns that Malachi wore over the summer that I'm sure would fit and be roomy. If you want to borrow them for as long as you need them (I won't need them until we have another baby, which is not in our future as of yet!) just let me know. I have 2 little strapped petticoats too that go with them.

The sheer dress is absolutely gorgeous. Wow.

P.S. Forgot to add. . .I usually use cotton drawers with elastic in the waist as diaper covers. But actually for the really hot events we attended this summer Malachi only wore his strapped petticoat and cotton gown. Sometimes it was so hot I took the gown off and he just wore the strapped petticoat. I've found with the long infant style dresses no one really sees his diaper anyway since his legs/feet are usually always covered. For this fall he is in shorter dresses and he will wear drawers, for warmth and so no one will see his modern diaper! :)

For a last minute make do diaper cover a few weeks ago he wore a dress I shortened and some modern baby pants made of blue/white check cotton seersucker. *So* make do but with the shorter dress and now that he is crawling it looked better than a modern diaper when one caught a glimpse of it.

Just the cutest little girl ever! She looks fabulous, the dress is gorgeous and I adore the fabric.

I'd use disposables so she can be as comfortable as possible and to make things easier on mom. Maybe you could fashion a little drawstring muslin bag to pop the disposable in if you have to change her in public.

That way, you could have the new diaper to carry in the bag so nobody would see it, and when you do the switcheroo, pop the rolled up wet diaper back into the bag so you can take it to a disposal site at your convenience without advertising what you've got in there.

Thanks everyone! :) Great ideas on diaper covering (and diaper changing!)...I've been wondering what to do in our warm Texas weather. I'd hate for V to get too hot. Heck, I get hot in all my layers...I'm sure a little munchkin will get equally hot. Maybe, just maybe, the weather will be easier on us this weekend.
